Acid Washing
SWIMMING POOL ACID WASHING
Sometimes a swimming pool can become disfigured and stained by rust marks and metal discoloration. An effective treatment for these issues is an Acid Wash. We have extensive experience performing acid washes on Tucson area swimming pools. Restore the beauty of your swimming pool by scheduling your Acid Wash today.
WHEN SHOULD I ACID WASH MY POOL OR SPA?
If the pool has not been kept up and maintained properly, it can even add a greenish swampy color to the pool. Once the pool has reached this level of disrepair, an Acid Wash is most likely necessary.
My Pool is Green!
A recently turned green swimming pool can most likely be solved by a Chlorine Wash, but if the algae has been allowed to fester for an extended period of time, it will fill the microscopic pourous holes of the plaster and anchor itself in. The only way to fully remove the algae stains and root of the problem is by performing an Acid Wash.
Yellowed or Dull, Stained Plaster
The plaster of a pool can become discolored and appear stained from the minerals that build up in pool water. While water has to be added to the pool to account for evaporation, minerals and particles in your pool don’t evaporate with it. Without proper draining and cleaning, this can cause hard water and irritate your skin and eyes. We recommend draining your pool every few years. If you pair an Acid Wash with a draining, it will have your pool looking new again and the water will be a joy to swim in. No hard water!
WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ACID WASH?
When an Acid Wash is performed on your pool, there are a few steps in the process.
Complete Draining and Debris Removal
The first step is draining the pool completely and removing any leftover debris from the bottom.
50/50 Acid Solution Mixing and Application
To perform the acid wash, we combine equal parts water with equal parts muriatic acid. In the case of a heavily stained plaster, sometimes a stronger solution is required to restore the plaster to its original bright color.
Acid Application and Brushing
The acid mixture is poured down the side of the walls of the drained swimming pool, 10 feet sections at a time. Leaving the acid on only for a half minute, the walls are scrubbed with a brush.
Rinse and Repeat
The pouring and brushing of each section is repeated two or more times, depending on the condition of the plaster and level of stains. A pool’s coat of plaster is usually about a half inch thick. The acid wash takes off the very top layer, allowing this process to be done many times over the lifetime of your pool’s plaster.
